dds is a known file type, but you have extensions hidden, when you type in target.dds the new file name will really be, which is not what the game is expecting, so the mod won't work.

exe file - it's also a problem when you have to rename files (which you will on occasion with this list).įor example, when you install the crosshair replacer on this list, you'll need to rename a file target.dds. Not only is this a security risk - you could double click on a file that you think is a. (To find this setting, in Windows Explorer, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View.) Microsoft stupidly makes hiding extensions for known file types the default (seriously, fuck Microsoft). Again, I'll leave it to you to find an image viewer you like there are plenty of good ones out there.Īlso, make sure you have Windows Explorer set to not hide extensions for known file types. Microshit's default image viewer naturally will not open. This will help you preview and compare textures. dds files (most texture files for Morrowind are in. I also recommend using an image viewer that will open.

If not, there are plenty of good ones out there, so I'll leave it to you to find one you like. You probably already have an archive manager that can work with. But generally everything here is applicable to all versions.įourth, you'll need a couple basic utilities before we get started. If you have a downloadable version of the game, your procedure for (re)installing the game will be different than mine. If you're using the original (non-GOTY) retail CD version, you'll need to install the last official patch after installing Bloodmoon. For the most part, which version of the game you have doesn't matter. Third, I have the GOTY CD version of Morrowind. I'll be assuming you're using the original game engine. Most of the mods on this list will work with it, but many won't. Probably the biggest disadvantage is that MWSE-lua mods don't work with OpenMW. Anything that helps us move away from Macroshit Wangblows is a good thing. The biggest advantage of OpenMW in my opinion is that it runs natively under Linux.

OpenMW has several advantages and several disadvantages compared to the original engine. Second, this mod list is for the original game engine, not OpenMW. A couple procedures might be a bit different, but you should be able to figure it out. The utilities I recommend should work under Windows 10 just as well as Windows 7. (Yes, I'm aware that Github is owned by Microsoft.) But if you're unfortunate enough to have to use it, just about everything I say here should be applicable to Windows 10.

I don't use Windows 10, because fuck Microsoft.
